William Doty

November 12, 1940 — July 7, 2024

William (Bill) H. Doty, age 83, passed away on July 7, 2024. He was born on November 12, 1940, the son of William Raymond and Emily June (Phillips) Doty, of St. Louis, MI.

As a child he lived with his family in St. Louis and Temple, MI. He attended the local Temple area school, then attended and graduated from Marion High School. Bill enlisted in the Navy. Completing submarine training school and was scheduled to go to sea on the U.S.S. Sirago.

Bill and Barbara J. Foor were united in marriage on February 13, 1960, in Gladwin, MI. Together they raised three children.

During his Navy career, he sailed on multiple submarines, he earned his position as an Electronical Mechanics Instructor. In 1978, he retired from the Navy after 20 years of service. After his retirement, Bill and Barbara returned back home to spend the rest of their lives together. Bill trained at MMCC/Ferris and worked as an electrical assembler at Brown Machine in Beaverton for 24 years and 8 months, before retiring.

There were many activities Bill enjoyed. He was a lifetime fur trapper and a member of the National Trappers Association, Furtakers of America, and The National Rifle Association. He enjoyed his trapping, hunting, fishing, and gardening. He also loved caring for his fruit trees, camping, and going bowling or to the casino. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his wife, Barbara, whether they were travelling or spending time with their wonderful family.

Bill is survived by his daughters: Tammy (Jason Swinehart) Roach, Sandy (Tim) Goodwin, both of Gladwin; son: Mike (Denelle) Doty of Rawlins, WY; grandchildren: Jennifer Doty, Tim Jr., Melissa Goodwin, Tyler (Taylor) Doty , Haley Doty, Zachary Swinehart, and Erin Swinehart; great-grandchildren: Miranda Cornman, Blake Cornman, Jordan Goodwin, Bentley Doty, Bridger Doty, and Adriana Archuleta; sister: Linda (Bill) Schrauben of Fowler, MI; sister-in-laws: Karolyn (Harry) Martin of Marion, and Sandy (Phil) Smith of Palm Coast, FL; and brother-in-law: Ed (Tina) Foor of Gladwin; along with many close family and friends.

He is preceded in death by his wife of 64 years: Barbara; parents: William R. Doty and Emily J. Doty-Tabor; step-father: Ivan (Bob) Tabor; grandson: Jason Roach; sister-in-law: Sue (Foor) Westfall; brother-in-law: Jim Westfall; and nephew: Brian Foor.

Honoring his wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service will take place on Friday, October 4, 2024 at 11:00 A.M. at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Gladwin.
