Virginia Mae Young, 89, of Midland, previously of Beaverton, passed away on Thursday, November 9, 2023, surrounded by her family. She was born on June 21, 1934 to Emil and Margie Slavik. She was raised in Flint and worked as a Practical Nurse. She married Robert Heft in Flint, MI and they had two daughters, Robin and Teresa before his death. She moved to Beaverton, where she married Fred Young. They had two daughters, Melody and Raelene. She was a lifetime member of the Gladwin County VFW Aux. #7303. During her active years, she started the VFW Jr. Girls unit and was the leader for over 25 years volunteering at the Saginaw VA Hospital, Gladwin Pines, and Clare Nursing Homes. She taught the girls the importance of volunteering, helping others, and patriotism. She also sold AVON for over 20 years.
Virginia is preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, brothers: Leroy Slavik, Levi Slavik, and Tilford Slavik; daughter: Robin Gibson; son-in-law: Bill Gibson; and grand-daughter: Rachel Wakeman.
She is survived by her daughters: Teresa (Charlie) Wakeman, Melody Coldwell, and Raelene (Jim) Horn; grandchildren: Alaura Coldwell (Josh O’Hara), Chas Wakeman (Autumn Enzer), Alex (Paige) Coldwell; and great-great grandson Jameson Coldwell; as well as extended family: Jeannie Harrel, Tim and Maureen Dorman, Ryan and Tiffany, Kloe, Alivia and Jaxson Dorman, Shawn, Dana and Violet Dorman, Nicole and Neil, Jordyn and Mason Fike, Shantell and Paris Moore, and Kyzer Gibbs.
Virginia lived at Brittany Manor in Midland where she enjoyed playing Bingo, doing crafts, and playing euchre with Marc, Sunday, Mary, Margie, Judy, and Donna. She was also very fond of the Nurses and CNAs who cared for her.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, November 14, 2023 at Hall-Kokotovich Funeral Home, Gladwin at 1:00 P.M. Visitation will be held from 10:00 A.M. until the time of service.
