Thomas Samuel Hoag, 66, of Beaverton, Michigan passed away at his home on Friday, October 5, 2018. He was born in Gladwin, Michigan on June 3, 1952 the son of Thomas & Jessie Ann (Whitfield) Hoag. On September 7, 1983 he was united in marriage to his true love, Joann Finney in Gladwin. Thomas hired in at Simpson Industries in 1973 and was employed there for the next 16 years. In 1991 he bought and began operating Beaverton Towing until he sold the business in 2000. He then joined the Beaverton Area Fire Department in 1987. He made Lieutenant in 1989, and was elected Fire Chief in 1999 and served 1 year. He retired from the department in 2003. He served as Gladwin County Commissioner from 2002 to 2008, and he attended Dale United Methodist Church. He was a person that would do things to serve family members, friends, and members of the community until his health began to fail. He loved being around people and truly enjoyed hanging out at the different coffee shops. He liked to hunt and work his property making food plots, digging ditches and building trails, along with working the land with his tractor. He loved any sport that included something with a motor. He drag raced and later competed in the 1978 Nationals in Tennessee. Then he raced a stock car at the local circle tracks and after that, he had classic cars and loved to attend car shows. The most recent hobby was garden tractor pulling that he teamed up with his son and placed in many categories. His memory will be forever cherished by his loving wife of 35 years, Joann Hoag of Beaverton; his only son: Alexander Hoag also of Beaverton. He will be dearly missed by his brother: George (Michelle) Hoag of Winslow, Arkansas; 2 sisters: Darlene (James) Powell of Beaverton; Stella Miller of Arkansas; step-sister: Carrie Kasschub of Gaylord, MI and several nieces & nephews. Funeral Services will be conducted by Pastor Patrick Poag on Tuesday, October 9, 2018, 11:00 A.M. at Hall-Kokotovich Funeral Home, Beaverton, Michigan. The family will receive friends on Monday, October 8, 2018 from 5-8:00 P.M. He will be laid to rest at Tobacco Twp. (Dale) Cemetery, Beaverton, Michigan.
