Suzanne “Sue” Akers, 87, of Beaverton passed away on Wednesday, October 13, 2021 at the Brook of Gladwin. She was born on October 21, 1933, daughter of Jose and Bessie Santiago. On July 2, 1955 she was united in marriage to her husband Robert Akers. He preceded her in death on August 15, 2021. She graduated from Wayne State in 1955 and was employed as a registered nurse for the Central Michigan Health Department until her retirement. Sue was always helping others. She volunteered at The Helping Hands Mission, The Baby Pantry for C.A.N. counsel, and received several awards for her charitable work throughout Gladwin County. She enjoyed learning about other cultures and in the late 70's traveled to places like China and Russia to tour their hospital systems. She had many talents such as sewing, gardening, baking, knitting and crocheting. She enjoyed her Bunco Group and also was a devoted member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church.
Left to cherish her memory are her 5 daughters: Mary Slack, Jane Wild, Jill (Jeff) Tideswell, Anne (Kent) Akers-Lewis, and Ruth Akers; 11 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren and 2 on the way; and a sister: Carmen Sluder; along with several nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband, parents, son in-law James Slack, and brother Jose.
Honoring her wishes cremation has taken place. Arrangements are in the care of Hall-Kokotovich Funeral Home, Gladwin.
