Ruth L. Gertz

Ruth Lillian Gertz went to be with her Lord and Savior on September 29, 2017,  at the Gladwin Pines nursing home. Ruth was born Nov. 10, 1926, in Gladwin County to Edmund and Olga (Simrau) Polzien. She was a graduate of Gladwin High School. On Oct. 27, 1945, she married Walter Gertz, her husband of 54 ½ years. They owned and operated a farm in Sage Township on Klamer Road. Together they raised two sons, William and Ken. Ruth was an active homemaker, loved to cook and sew, and with Walter, a life-long member of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod, in both Oberlin and at Our Savior Lutheran in Gladwin. She also had a passion for gardening and loved her flowers and garden vegetables. In addition to being a farm wife, she was later employed by the Smith Miller Insurance Agency in Gladwin, followed by her election as Sage Township Clerk where she served for over 25 years. She was very dedicated to the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League and a long time member. Ruth was preceded in death by Walter on April 30, 2000, along with sister, Betty Hartwig, and brothers, Edwin Polzien, George Polzien, Hank Polzien, and Louis Polzien. Lovingly remembered by sons William (Jean) Gertz and Ken (Carol) Gertz; grandchildren Nathan (Traci) Gertz, Michelle (Dean) Potter, and Kari (James) Neal; great grandchildren Emilie Gertz, Alex Gertz, Logan Gertz, Brock Potter, Ella Potter, and Zella Mae Neal. Funeral visitation is at the Hall-Kokotovich Funeral Home in Gladwin on Monday, October 2, 2017 from 4:00pm until 8:00pm. Christian Service Of Life will take place at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Gladwin on Tuesday, October 3, 2017 at 11:00am. Burial will be at the Gladwin Highland Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, family asks that a donation be made to Our Savior Lutheran Church Memorial Fund.
