Robert "Bob" Akers

October 26, 1935 — August 15, 2021

Robert "Bob" Akers, 85, of Beaverton, passed away on Sunday, August 15, 2021, at the Brook of Gladwin surrounded by his loved ones. He was born on October 26, 1935, the son of Lester and Hannah Akers in Detroit. On July 2, 1955, he was united in marriage to his true love Suzanne "Sue" Santiago. They were blessed with 66 wonderful years of marriage. Bob was an entrepreneur. He was a very talented fabricator/ welder and owned B and L Welding in Coleman. He did some farming and a lot of you would know Bob as "The Rock Guy." He sold landscaping rocks and boulders, having the equipment to remove and place at many homes in the area. He was an avid golfer who was on the board of directors at Eagle Glen in Farwell. Bob would bowl in the winter, to pass the time until it was golf season again. Most of all Bob will always be remembered for his kindness and generosity. He would do anything and be willing to help anybody if they asked Bob for help. He was a member of Our Lady of Grace (St. Anne) Catholic Church in Edenville where Sue and Bob have been longtime members.

Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife: Sue Akers; 5 daughters: Mary Slack, Jane Wild, Jill (Jeff) Tideswell, Anne (Kent) Akers-Lewis, and Ruth Akers; 11 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren and 2 on the way; and a brother: Clyde Akers; along with several nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents; 2 sisters: Helen and Anna;  and son in-law: Dr. James Slack.

Cremation has taken place and a celebration of life will be held at a later date. Arrangements are in the care of Hall-Kokotovich Funeral Home, Gladwin and Beaverton.
