Mary Virginia Evans

May 28, 1929 — December 11, 2024

Mary Virginia “Ginny” Evans, age 95, of Beaverton, passed away on Wednesday, December 11, 2024. She was born on May 28, 1929, the daughter of Gay and Bessie (Stuhr) Cohoon, in Flint. On May 29, 1948, she married the love of her life, Morris Evans. They found their forever home in Beaverton and shared many years of love and cherished memories until he preceded her in death in 1999.

Mary led an active and fulfilling life, always keeping herself busy with meaningful work and hobbies. She was a member of Lyle’s Ladies Aide, contributed her time to the Farm Bureau, and volunteered with Habitat for Humanity. Mary also supported her husband during his tenure as Township Treasurer and frequently assisted with voting during elections.

An integral part of her community, Mary was a devoted and longtime member of the Beaverton Methodist Church. She also managed the Beaverton Department Store for many years, a role she took great pride in—especially when the store became one of the first to move the Beaverton Plaza.

Mary dedicated much of her time to caring for her family and working on the farm, always ensuring everyone’s needs were met. Mary also raised and cared for goats, which brought her immense joy. Her adventurous spirit and love of travel led her and her husband to live in St. Croix for two years, where they ran a farm.

In her creative pursuits, Mary enjoyed spinning wool, knitting, and crocheting. She was always keeping herself busy, it was not very often she was found sitting in front on the television.

She is survived by her children: Ronald (Diana) Evans, Jack (Billie) Evans, and Dawn (Jim) Malcomnson; grandchildren: Tammy (Jamie) McCallister, Troy (Ana) Evans, Laurie (Chris) Hren, Jeff Evans, Jesse (Monica) Malcomnson, Anita Evans, Melissa and Heather Evans, April (Johnny) Robinson, Alicia (Mike) Foster, and Curtis (Jennifer) Prescott; great-grandchildren: Morgan McCallister, Jordan (Niko) Savich, Daniela and Nicolas Evans, Madeline and Luke Hren, Tyce and Logan Malcomnson, Carlisle and Amelia Foster, and Jada and Braylon Prescott; great-great grandchildren: Sophia and Luka; brothers: Eugene Cohoon, of Sault St. Marie and Stewart “Bud” Cohoon, of Fortuna, California; sister-in-law: Maria Cohoon, of Midland; along with many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband: Morris; children: Tim and Jaqueline; parents: Gay and Bessie; and brothers: Don, Elliot, and Jim Cohoon.
