Laura Peters

Laura L. Peters, age 87, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 21, 2023. Laura was born on March 29, 1936, to the late Charles and Mary (Pearl) VanDeVyvere in Linwood, Michigan. Laura married Donald C. LeVasseur (son of Marjorie and Maxim LeVasseur) on July 2, 1955, and together they had eight children.

Laura had a strong work ethic, taught herself to sew and worked for nearly 50 years as seamstress. She loved her pets fiercely and was a long-time supporter of the Humane Society. Laura enjoyed going to bazaars and craft shows and looked forward to her trips to the Grand Hotel on Mackinaw Island, which she did on numerous occasions.

Laura is survived by her sons: Mark (Shelly Haines) LeVasseur, Robert (Debra) LeVasseur, David (Nicole) LeVasseur; daughters: Mary (Dale) Kowaleski and Barbara (Michael) Ecker; and her husband Conrad Peters, whom she married in 1996.

Laura is preceded in death by her beloved husband: Donald (1973); daughter: Debra LeVasseur and her two infant sons, Donald and Michael; great-grandchild: Ethan Wudyka; brother: Charles VanDeVyvere; and sister: Marlene Luptowski.

Laura had 16 grandchildren: Jason LeVasseur, Jennifer Wudyka, Laura LeVasseur, Shayla LeVasseur, Nicole Stanton, Andrew LeVasseur, Sarah Fosdick, Heather Kowaleski, Stacey Kowaleski, Saige Ecker, Michael Ecker, Lauren LeVasseur, Abigail LeVasseur, Benjamin LeVasseur, Michael Samson and Megan Samson.

Laura had seven great-grandchildren: Madeline LeVasseur, Oliver LeVasseur, Jameson Wudyka, Joey LeVasseur, Laura Merecek, Ayla Merecek, and Charlie Samson.

To honor Laura’s wishes, there will be a private memorial service for the immediate family. Those wishing an expression of sympathy in Laura’s honor are asked to consider The Foundation for Angelman Syndrome Therapeutics (“FAST”), St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, or The Humane Society of Bay County.
