John Reed, 73, of Gladwin, passed away after a courageous battle with cancer on Thursday, May 26, 2022. He was born on June 22, 1948, the son of Robert and Helen (McGuigan) Reed in Detroit. John was united in marriage to Kathy Prokos in 1973. They have been blessed with over 48 years of marriage. He worked as a custodian for Gladwin Community Schools until his retirement.
John began and organized the MS Society- Gladwin County Chapter- support group. John's support of his wife's diagnosis brought awareness and togetherness to many. He also enjoyed doing the annual Mackinaw Bridge walk every Labor Day for MS awareness for many years. He liked hunting, fishing, camping and anything outdoors. John loved his family, especially his 12 grandchildren he adored more than anything. He loved watching them play sports and growing up around him.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 48 years: Kathy Reed; children: John Reed, Dave (Lori) Reed, Jennifer (Jason) Sabo, and Julie (Matt) Riley; 12 grandchildren: Sean, Logan, Evan, Kaitlin, Joseph, Ryan, Dalton, Emily, Braden, Keigan, and Gabriel; along with 3 great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by: several siblings and his parents, as well as his daughter, Yvonne Callahan and grandchild, Channing Callahan.
Graveside services will be held Friday, June 3, 2022, 1:00 P.M. at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery. Arrangements are in the care of Hall-Kokotovich Funeral Home, Gladwin, Michigan.
