Joan Mertz

Joan M. Mertz, 78, of Gladwin, MI passed away at My Michigan Medical Center, Midland, MI on Friday, December 16, 2022 surrounded by her loved ones. She was born January 18, 1944 the third daughter of James and Violet (Conger) Rock in Port Huron, MI. On June 6, 1964 Joan was united in marriage to the love of her life Thomas Mertz in Port Huron, MI. In 1982 Joan and Thomas moved to Gladwin, where they raised their two children, and opened, owned and operated the local McDonalds. After retirement in 1998 Joan enjoyed spending time developing her passion for creative writing, reading, puzzles, and sharing stories. She especially loved football season and cheering on her Michigan Wolverines. Above all else Joan loved her family and her favorite times were spent loving on her many grandchildren.

Left to honor her memory are her children: Kimberly (Matt) and James (Jennifer); grandchildren: Jared, Thomas, Ronnie, Trinity, Elizabeth, Katherine, and Abigail; great-grandkids: Brendon, Harmony, Cobalt, Jackson, Rosalyn, Melody and Nova; sister: June; along with many extended family members and dear friends.

Preceding her in death are her parents: James and Violet; husband: Thomas; sister: Jean; grandson: Shon; and dear friend: Jack Emeott Sr.

Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, December 27, 2022 at Christ The King Church in Gladwin, MI beginning at 11:00 A.M. The family will be receiving guests Monday, December 26, 2022 beginning at 4:00 P.M. at Hall-Kokotovich Funeral Home, Gladwin, MI. Arrangements are in the care of Hall-Kokotovich Funeral Home.
