Gerald C. Beagle

May 11, 1925 — November 24, 2018

Gerald C. Beagle, born May 11, 1925 to Marjorie R. (Atkin) and Carl M. Beagle in Millington, Michigan, passed away on November 24, 2018 at the Horizon Senior Living in Gladwin, Michigan making him the “only Beagle to live this long.” He was proud of living 93 years. Along with his identical twin, Harold E. Beagle, he enlisted into the Navy on May 4, 1943. After serving on the USS Gosselin, he was honorably discharged March of 1946. As a World War II veteran, he was a member and Past Commander of the American Legion Post 456 in Burton, and a Life Member of the VFW Post 2777, transferring his membership to Post 7303 in Beaverton. After being discharged from the Navy, he began working for the Ottawa Paper Co/Mead Corporation in Flint, Michigan, where he met Clara L. Chilcote. They were married in Millington on June 18, 1949. Sharing the love of fishing, they would make the drive up to the cabin on Pratt Lake in Gladwin to spend weekends and vacations enjoying the lake. He worked for the Mead Corporation in Flint until its closing, when they then moved from the Burton area and began living in the cabin on the lake. His marriage lasted until Clara’s death in 1989. While working, Gerald became involved with the Junior Achievement program in the area. He also was a Blood Donor, earning an 8 gallon pin. Gerald also enjoyed hunting, playing cards, bingo and going to the casino. Putting jigsaw puzzles together while at the Horizon earned him the title of “Puzzle King.” Passing before him were his parents, wife, and “I’m the other one” brother. Those left to remember the mischievous twinkle in his eyes are his daughter and son in-law, Josephine (JoLee) and Robert Ridley of Gladwin, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He will be laid to rest next to his wife in Highland Cemetery in Gladwin. Thanks and appreciation to those at the Horizon of Gladwin and Compassus of West Branch for the care and compassion they shared while taking care of Gerald in the last years of his life. Those wishing to make a contribution in memory of Gerald please consider a local food bank or an organization helping veterans with disabilities. Arrangements are in the care of Hall-Kokotovich Funeral Home, Gladwin, Michigan. www.hallkokotovichfuneralhome.com
