Frederick Donald Schoenberg Sr., age 88, of Avon, Indiana, formerly of Gladwin and Prescott, MI, passed away on Wednesday, April 2, 2025. He was born on April 29, 1936, the son of Arthur and Elsie (Ploetz) Schoenberg, in Richmond, MI. On May 18, 1957, he married the love of his life, Mary Ann Brassinger. Together, they shared 64 years of love, laughter and cherished memories until she preceded him in death in 2021.
Frederick was a proud veteran of the United States Army, serving from 1955 to 1957 as a member of the esteemed 82nd Airborne Division. After his military service, he built a career as a skilled plumber and pipe-fitter, starting his own business named Fremar Plumbing and Heating. Later on, he continued his work with the Local 85 Union in Saginaw. Frederick had been a member of the Knights of Columbus since 1983, achieving Fourth Degree/Sir Knight status. He was also a member of the Mason’s since 1979, spending time as a Past Master at the Masonic Lodge 471 in Whittemore, MI and was also active at the Masonic Lodge 379 in Gladwin. Fred has been a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles for 19 years, and was active in Gladwin at 4121 and Plainfield, Indiana at 3207.
Frederick loved fishing and golfing. He enjoyed tinkering in his own-or anyone’s garage or barn. He had a generous spirit, always donating to causes that sent him something in the mail. Most of all, he cherished spending time with his family and friends.
After the passing of his wife in 2021, Frederick moved to Avon, IN to live by his son Fred Jr. He enjoyed spending time at the Plainfield Eagles with his new brothers and sisters, where he became an important part of the Eagles family. He was an involved member, often participating in fundraisers and events. He will be sorely missed by everyone that knew and loved him.
He is survived by his children: Frederick (Sharon) Schoenberg Jr., Steve (Beth) Schoenberg, and Christine (Chris) Wentz; grandchildren: Justin (Krysta) Clemons, Colt (Libby) Schoenberg, Reid Schoenberg, Brooke Schoenberg, Brandy Wentz, Brandi Vierling, and Ryan (Katelyn) Vierling; along with 18 great-grandchilren and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife: Mary Ann; parents: Arthur and Elsie; grandson: Sergeant Brad Wentz; along with all of his brothers and sisters.
Funeral services will take place on Saturday, April 12, 2025 at 12:00 noon at Hall-Kokotovich Funeral Home in Gladwin. Visitation will be held from 10:00 A.M. until the time of service.
