Evelyn Combs

Evelyn Combs, 94, of Gladwin, passed away on Saturday, March 6, 2021, at Mid-Michigan Medical Center, Midland. She was born on August 14, 1926, the daughter of Jacob and Marcella (Leistmeister) Goehring in Detroit. On June 25, 1949, she was united in marriage to the love of her life Clifford Combs. He preceded her in death in 1999. Evelyn has been reunited with her soulmate and best friend. Evelyn and Clifford resided in Roseville until retiring. After retirement they moved to spend their golden years in Traverse City. In retirement they loved traveling to Florida, bird watching, and following the blue grass circuit. After Clifford’s passing, Evelyn moved to Holly and most recently resided in Gladwin. She loved knitting, canning, and word searches. She loved to cook and sent cookies and chili to deer camp annually; though the cookies normally didn’t make it beyond the car ride. She loved her family and will be dearly missed by all who loved her.

Left to cherish her memory are her son: Clay (Jenny) of Secord Lake; grandchildren: Chris (Stephanie) of Holly, Chad (Kristin) of West Branch, and Heather (Michael) Tarpening of Fenton; great grandchildren: Jillian, Brenden, Callie, Audrey, Charles, and Lydia; sister in-law: Ann Combs; along with several nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband: Clifford Combs; parents; step mother; brother: Norman Goehring; brother in-law: Robert Combs.

Services for Mrs. Combs will be held on Thursday, March 11, 2021, 1:00 P.M. at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 270 Grange Hall Road, Ortonville, Michigan. Luncheon to follow. A Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 11, 2021, from 11:30 A.M. until the time of service at the church. She will be laid to rest at Ortonville Cemetery immediately following. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, Ortonville.
