Edmund Victor (“Ed”) Strelecki passed away on Sunday April, 30 2017 at the age of 88.
Ed was born to parents Francis (“Frank”) and Frances (Blachut) Strelecki on October 16, 1928 in Detroit.
He was the second of 11 siblings. Eva, Leo, Anastasia "Nettie", Clement and Barbara survive him; Raymond, Thaddeus "Ted", Florian, Stanley and Andrew preceded him in death.
Ed was raised in Omer, MI on the family farm along the Rifle River while his dad commuted weekly to factory jobs in Detroit. Ed graduated from Arenac Eastern High School after which he served in the U.S. Army as a Corporal specializing in radio communications, stationed in Germany during the Korean War.
After returning from the Army, Ed married his fiancé Rose Lanczak at St. Florian’s Catholic Church in Standish, MI on May 2, 1953. A month later Ed’s father Frank passed away and several of Ed’s younger siblings moved in with him and Rose in Detroit.
Ed graduated from Walsh Institute of Accountancy (now Walsh College) and began a career in data processing. Ed worked as a computer operator and programmer for various firms in the Detroit area and for four years in Anaheim, CA. Moving back to Michigan Ed was employed as a Programmer Analyst, spending his last 20+ years as a Systems Analyst at the Internal Revenue Service in Detroit before retiring in 1988. Ed and Rose moved from their Livonia, MI home to their lake house in Sugar Springs full time over a dozen years ago where he enjoyed feeding the deer, birds and fish.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents and several siblings, and son Mark. He is survived by his beloved wife Rose, his son Gary (Kathy Berry), his daughter Patricia (Brian Devlin), his granddaughter Grace (Matthew Holiday) and great granddaughter Layla Rose, and many friends and neighbors.
Visitation is at Hall Kokotovich Funeral Home in Gladwin, MI on Friday May 5 th from 2 - 8:00 p.m. The funeral mass is Saturday May 6 th at Sacred Heart Church in Gladwin with viewing from 10 – 11 a.m. and mass at 11 a.m. A luncheon will immediately follow at the Sugar Springs community center hall adjacent to the Hearth Restaurant at 1930 Sugar River Road in Gladwin.
