Dora M. Carrier, age 74, passed away unexpectedly, but peacefully on Thursday, September 5, 2024, while doing what she loved, spending time with her family, sewing, and making beautiful quilts. Above all else, Dora loved her family and recently had the pleasure of watching two of her granddaughters get married and welcomed her first great-granddaughter into the family.
Dora spent her entire adult life in the greater Port Huron area. For 30 years she worked in the food service department at Port Huron Hospital, where her friendly nature and dedication left a lasting impact on those she worked with. On July 9, 1975, she married the love of her life, Kenneth Carrier. Together, they shared many beautiful years making memories and sharing their love with those around them until his passing in 2015.
After the loss of her husband, with the help of the Quilters in Training Guild in Capac, MI, Dora learned to sew and make beautiful quilts. Over the past several years she has used her passion for sewing to give back to the communities she loved by sewing blankets and pillowcases for children in need, as well as making masks for local businesses to help them through the pandemic.
In addition to sewing, Dora loved to spend time with her family, doting over her grandchildren, and cuddling her cats. She loved to spend weeks at a time with her siblings and family in the Muskegon area creating beautiful quilts together. She was always happy to sit around a campfire, or on a porch, sharing stories and making memories with family and friends.
Dora is survived by her daughters: Betty Jo (Justin) Wessel, Diane Renae (Dave) Willie, and Charity (Matt) Moeller; grandchildren: Amber, Alec, Brendan, Morgan, Lacey, Annabella, and Austyn; great-granddaughter: Khloe; along with several siblings, nieces, and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Kenneth.
Honoring her wishes, cremation has taken place, and a Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, September 27, 2024 at Goodells County Park, 8310 County Park Dr, Goodells, MI 48027 from 1:00pm until 9:00pm. Visitation will begin at 1:00 pm with a memorial service at 1:30 pm with lunch and memory sharing to follow. The family asks that anyone that has been gifted one of Dora’s many quilts bring them, or send pictures to the family, for display during the Celebration of Life. Arrangements are in the care of Hall-Kokotovich Funeral Home.
