Donald Convis

April 13, 1931 — February 16, 2022

Donald Jay Convis, 90, of Flint and Gladwin, Michigan. Don was born in Kingston, Michigan to J.D. and Bernice Botsford Convis on the spring day of April 13, 1931 and died on a warm spring like day, Wednesday, February 16, 2022. He was one of eleven children. The family moved from the farm to Flint in 1936 so his dad could be employed with General Motors. Don graduated from Flint Northern High School in the Class of 1950. He was united in marriage to Roberta Catherine Segrove on July 27, 1951 in Flint, Michigan and they had a loving marriage of 67 years. Roberta predeceased Donald on May 24, 2018. Don served in the United States Army from February 1952 until January 1954 in the infantry division located overseas in Germany. After serving his country Don returned to Flint and was employed at what was then known as the Buick Retail Store, the name changed to Eastside Buick which closed in June of 1973. Upon the closing he was transferred to General Motors Parts Division in Swartz Creek, Michigan as a Service Engineer retiring in I987. Don enjoyed golf, he was on a league for many years, and enjoyed working on many home improvement projects at both his home and cottage. Being a car guy all his life he would repair vehicles for himself and relatives. He also repaired television sets as a sideline for many years during the latel950's into the 1960's . He was an avid reader of newspapers and books. Don greatly enjoyed spending time with his wife and children, but especially his grandchildren. His memory will be forever cherished by his loving children, Paula (Rick) Soper of Birch Run, and David (JoAnn) Convis of Florida. Don was blessed with his beautiful grandchildren to remember many happy times with their grandpa, Christopher Soper (Margaret), Laura (Michael) Griffioen, David (Paula) Princing; great-great- granddaughter Stella, Jamie Princing; great-grandson David Doerr, Dale (Maegan) Princing; great-grandsons Dale and Jackson Princing. Don is survived by a brother, Carl (Linda) Convis of Florida and sister Marie Schultz of Florida. Don was predeceased by brothers; Robert (Mattie), Warren (Hilda), Herman, and Lester as well as sisters; Faye Wezell, Evelyn (Robert) Harris, Charlotte (Daniel) Tarkington, and Caroline Kirby. He also has a surviving brother in law, B.J. Kirby, surviving sister-in-laws Rozella and Elaine Convis. He also has his dear friend and neighbor Mildred Mahan, special nieces Bobbie Sue McClanahan and Sally Simmons to cherish his love along with many relatives and friends that will dearly miss him, too numerous to list. Don would like to thank the caring staff at the Riverglens Assisted Living for his tender and kind care. They became family and he deeply valued their friendship and camaraderie. Honoring his wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held on March 11, 2022, 11:00 A.M. at St. Dunstan’s Episcopal Church, 1523 North Oak Rd. Davison, MI.
