Clyde “Don” Donald Hessel, 85, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 18, 2018 at Mid Michigan Medical Center, Midland, Michigan. He was born January 3, 1933 to Carl and Nellie (Boger) Hessel in St. Ignace, Michigan and he graduated from Cedarville High School. Don served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was employed by the Michigan Department of Transportation working in road construction for 36 years. Don worked on I-75 from Detroit to Saginaw and north to West Branch, as well as St. Ignace to Sault Ste. Marie. He worked in the Newberry and Crystal Falls District as well. Don married Louise Pennington in 1963. They have a daughter, Pamela (Robert) Allen of Charlotte, Michigan and a son: Cory (Jamie Williams) Hessel of Great Falls, Montana. Don enjoyed time spent with his grandchildren, Alicia (Adam) Daniel, Sean & Kristen Langford, Nathan and Brendan Hessel and great grandchild: Emmett. Don was an avid reader, outdoorsman, woodworker, basket maker, and boat builder. He was preceded in death by his parents: Carl & Nellie Hessel; brothers: Edward and John; sister: Edna Talbot. Honoring his wishes, cremation has taken place. Donations may be made to Season’s Adult Day Health Services, 4812 Dublin Avenue, Midland, Michigan 48642 or the Hessel Schoolhouse Project, P.O. Box 25, Hessel, Michigan 49745. A visitation for Don Hessel will be held at Hall-Kokotovich Funeral Home, in Gladwin on Sunday, June 24, 2018 from 3-5 pm. Don passed away January 18, 2018 in Midland.
