Carlton (Carl) F. Slater, 86, of Gladwin, Michigan, died peacefully surrounded by family on August 21, 2024.

Carlton was born in Harrisville, MI, to Carlton and Isabella Slater on June 11, 1938. Carl was the youngest of 5 siblings. He is preceded in death by his parents, his sisters: Shirley Grassmick, Alice Moore, Nancy Watz and Donna Kremer, and brother-in-law, David Stanton.

He married Susan J. Stanton on June 13, 1959, and lived in Saginaw, MI. In 1972, they moved to Gladwin, MI with their three children: Jeff (Dawn) Slater, Kathie A. Slater Ehinger, and Steven (Carie) Slater; 8 grandchildren: Jennifer (Jason) Bazzett, Brianna (Mike) Bautista, Stephanie Ehinger Allen (Brad), Anthony (Brogan) Ehinger, Derek (Ashley) Ehinger, Nicholas Sieckowski, Aaron (Allison) Slater, and Megan Slater; 8 Great-grandchildren: Kody, Dyllan, Gracie, Mila, Maleah, Allie, Noah, Jackson, Scarlett, Easton, and Kaitlynn; nephew: Matthew (Stacie) Stanton and their children: Mattie and Ethan; niece: Amy Stanton and her children: McKenzie, Dagne, Amelia, and David.

Several other nieces, nephews, and cousins. Along with good friends and neighbors on the lake.

Carlton started working as a furniture maker in 1958 for Saginaw Furniture Shop. He enlisted in the National Guard from 1959 to 1965. In 1962, he made a career working at Saginaw Steering Gear, until he retired in 1996. In his retirement, Carl returned to furniture making. He was a skilled craftsman and had pride in all his creations. Carl also loved teaching his children and grandchildren the sport of shooting guns.

Honoring Carl’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Those who would like to do so are encouraged to make memorial contributions in Carl’s Honor to Compassus Hospice. Arrangements are in the care of Hall-Kokotovich Funeral Home. www.hallkokotovichfuneralhome.com
