Andrea Wetmore passed away peacefully in her sleep on April 18, 2023. If you knew her, you would know that this is exactly how she would have wanted to leave this world.
Andi was born January 27, 1955 to Floyd and Marcella (Mikusek) Wetmore in Midland Michigan. After she graduated from High School, she chose to travel Europe by herself. She then attended Michigan State and Delta Colleges. For a period of her life, Andi traveled with the carnival through Hussy Amusements and Jack Lindle Shows where she and her then husband, Jim King, operated one of the rides. She settled in Texas for several years, and worked at Alcon Laboratories. Andi enjoyed a simple life, surrounded by her dear pets and amazing human friends.
She moved back to Michigan in 1994, to help welcome her niece, Molly Rossman, settling in Beaverton in her home on the river. In 2009, she lost her home, possessions and several pets to a house fire. In typical Andi fashion, she rebuilt--honoring what she lost, but moving on to what came next.
She worked in many scientific fields of endeavor. Andi had a strong relationship with God, but was not what one might consider religious. She was very spiritual, believing in a divine being, and embracing a variety of beliefs. She had strong Christian Scientist beliefs about the sanctity of the body. She was a Reiki master, and her efforts led to the recovery and well being of many family members, pets and friends. She adored her Kirtan singing program. She loved to cook and bake – something she got from her mom. She could grow any plant that came her way, and loved growing flowers, herbs and vegetables in her garden each year. She believed that things were always working out for her; and that positivity was evident in her life over these last few years. She adopted many feral cats, and they became her companions and her family. Andi understood what it was to be a wild creature. But she found a way to share her gifts and connect to the world..
Many loving souls were key in Andi’s life. Her lifelong friend Kael, Ren, Himah; Rex, Jim, Weldon, Addie, Gwen, Treva, Rosita, Fannie and Amos, Ken, Chris; among many, many others who we aren’t able to name here. She and her sister shared a bond of amazing friendship and lifelong memories. Andi adored her niece, Molly, and the magical adventures they shared.
She is survived by her sister, Valerie Rossman, her niece, Molly Rossman and partner Weston Cross, her aunt Theresa Mikusek, her cousin, LJ Mikusek and his wife Kat Hill, aunt Barbara and uncle Roger Mikusek. She is preceded in death by her parents, her grandparents Frank and Gertie Wetmore and Marcella and Ludwik Mikusek, her aunt Jan Moser and uncle Jim Moser, her uncle Lud Mikusek. Her long-term partner Weldon, her cousin Mitchell, her friend and neighbor Jack, and her most recent kitty Dorian.
She left a message for her family, as she wrote her requests for her funeral a few months ago. It says, “Don’t be afraid of anything in my passing. I’m free, I’m happy, I’m not afraid. I’m writing this today as spring is changing the light in my house. Know I’ve always had a foot in both worlds.” This has brought Andi’s family great comfort in the passing of her beautiful, wild and magical life.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests consideration of donations to the Gladwin County Animal Shelter, the Sacred Heart Mission of Gladwin or The Helping Hands Mission of Beaverton, Andi’s Kirtan singing group at robandmelissa.com, or the charity of your choice. The family would especially treasure any Andi story you might wish to share on either her obituary page, or dropped off at the funeral home. Stories about her let us enjoy the person she was through your eyes.
A cremation has taken place and a celebration of life is planned on Friday May 12 th with family greeting guests from 3pm to 5pm, and then a small service to follow at 5pm. This will be held at Hall Kokotovich Funeral home, 430 S Ross St, Beaverton, MI.
