Theodore “Ted” L. Smith, 83, of Houghton Lake, Michigan passed away at King Nursing & Rehabilitation Community in Houghton Lake on Thursday, February 2, 2017. He was born in Gladwin, Michigan on January 27, 1934 the son of Gordon & Rhea (Bruce) Smith. On June 21, 1958 he was united in marriage to his true love, Jean Sullivan in Gladwin. He had lived in Roscommon County since 2006, previously residing in Gladwin County. He was an Insurance Salesman and owned Gordon Smith Insurance Agency from 1958-1966, then he became a Realtor owning and operating Smith-Miller Real Estate. After that he continued his career in real estate owning and operating the Hiawatha Real Estate later becoming Mackinaw Real Estate from 1972-1986 and also owned various other businesses. He then returned to Gladwin and worked for Century 21 Real Estate from 1986 until early 2000. He was a member of the Hiawatha Sportsman’s Club of Naubinway.  He enjoyed bowling, playing cards and trout fishing.  His memory will be forever cherished by his loving wife of 58 wonderful years, Jean Smith of Houghton Lake; son: Kirk (Vicky) Smith of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario; daughter: Kelly Miller and fiance: Norm Depriester of Onaway; son: Paul Smith of Houghton Lake. He was blessed with 9 beautiful grandchildren: Kirk Jr., Kristopher, Kevin, Kristy, Kyle, Katie, Kendra, Candy and Mitchell; 9 precious great grandchildren and several nieces & nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; grandson: T.J.; brothers: Frank Smith; Gordon Smith; Bill Bruce; sister: Charlotte Sutherland. Funeral Mass will be conducted by Father Rolando Silva on Monday, February 6, 2017, 11:00 A.M., with visitation beginning at 10:00 A.M. at Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church, Prudenville, Michigan. Visitation will be held on Sunday, February 5, 2017, from 4-7:00 P.M. at Hall-Kokotovich Funeral Home, Gladwin, Michigan. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made according to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
