Velma Faye Haines

Velma Faye Haines, 100, passed away peacefully on November 12, 2016 at Mid Michigan Heath in Gladwin, Michigan. Faye was born on August 17, 1916 to loving parents George and Maude White and was a resident of Gladwin her entire life. She attended County Normal for 1 year and taught school for 3 years before marrying Ronald (Ron) Haines, a dairy farmer, on November 21, 1936. After having children, she went to work at a machine shop for 3 years, taught at country school for 3 years, and then taught 3 rd grade at Gladwin Community Schools for 20 years. After retiring, Faye and Ron spent many winters in Florida where Faye often participated in a senior citizen band. She knitted sweaters for soldiers during World War 2 and crocheted hundreds of caps and mittens for the needy. Faye was also an active member of the Community of Christ Church in Gladwin for most of her life, where she was still able to play the piano at the age of 99. She is survived by 3 children and their spouses, Larry (Jane) Haines of Chandler, Arizona; Roger (Marlene) Haines of Gladwin and Judy (Jim) Edick of Gladwin; 17 grandchildren; Vicki (Park) Watson of New Hampshire; Monica Haines of Rochester, Michigan; Tony (Tami) Haines of Idaho; Kim (Tom) Geringer of Arizona; Tod Haines of Arizona; Darren (Mechelle) Haines of Gladwin; Heidi (Scott) Kleinhardt of Clare; Ken Haines of Standish; Nathan (Ashlee) of Gladwin; Kati (Dylan) Fry of Gladwin; Casey Edick of Traverse City; Mickey (Greta) Edick of Gladwin, and Rusty (Anne) Edick of Gladwin; 35 great grandchildren; 5 great-great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ron, of 59 years; 2 brothers: Irvine and Verl; 1 sister: Gladys; 4 grandsons, Bryan, Steven, Henry and Dale. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, November 16, 2016 at the Community of Christ Church in Gladwin. Memorial contributions may be made to the Community of Christ Church.
