Boyd "Butch" J. Overton

Boyd “Butch” Overton, 73, of Gladwin, Michigan, passed away at Covenant HealthCare, Saginaw, Michigan, on Thursday, September 15, 2016. He was born on June 5, 1943, the son of Edward & Mary (Brown) Firmingham in Midland, Michigan. He was united in marriage to UnaV C. Barrie on July 25, 1964 in Saginaw, Michigan, in the chapel of Ames Methodist Church. Butch was employed by Saginaw Metal Casting Plant/ Grey Iron as a foundry worker until his retirement in 2001. He has lived in Gladwin County since his retirement in 2001, previously residing in Freeland, Michigan. After moving to Gladwin, he was a Sugar Springs Security Guard. He was a member of the NRA, Field & Stream Gun Club, and was a deacon at the Freeland Zion Lutheran Church. Butch was an avid pistol marksmen, who loved hunting, fishing, and was a motorcycle enthusiast. Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 52 years: UnaV Overton of Gladwin; sons: Brian Overton of Gladwin; Barrie Overton of Lock Haven, Pennsylvania; sister: Colleen Stratton of Lexington, Kentucky; brother: Ted Firmingham of Moore, Oklahoma; and several nieces & nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents: Edward Firmingham & Mary Brown; brother: Edward Firmingham; grandparents: John & Anne Brown; special people: Vesta Kingsbury; Kathleen Rose. Funeral Services will be conducted by Pastor Kirk Havel of Tuesday, September 20, 2016, 11:00 A.M. at Hall-Kokotovich Funeral Home, Gladwin, Michigan. The family will receive friends on Monday, September 19, 2016, from 6-8:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Graveside Services will be held Wednesday, September 21, 2016, 11:00 A.M. at Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Saginaw, Michigan. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Sugar Springs Memorial Fund, Covenant HealthCare McNally House or the NRA.
