Gerald E. Gavin

Gerald E. Gavin, 84, of Gladwin, Michigan, passed away on Saturday, August 20, 2016. He was born on July 18, 1932, the son of Fredrick & Clara (Hoeft) Gavin in Detroit, Michigan. Gerald was a veteran of the United States Army, proudly serving his country during the Korean Conflict. On March 7, 1952, he married his true love Betty Walser in Detroit. After 25 years of service he retired as a Business Agent from the Local Union #2265 in 1992. Gerald has lived in Gladwin County since 1993, previously residing in Westland, Michigan. He was a member of the Gladwin Eagles Aerie 3292 and Our Savior Lutheran Church. Among his hobbies Gerald enjoyed fishing and golfing, but especially loved his family, especially his grandchildren, they were his life. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 64 years: Betty Gavin of Gladwin; daughters: Cathy Eckhout of South Lyon; Jana Borges of Westland; Linda (Jimmy) Armstrong of Westland; 7 grandchildren: Nicole, Adrienne, Colleen, Valerie, Laura, Alicia, Alison; 3 great grandchildren: Jordan, Michael, Olivia; and one on the way. He is also survived by his brother: Leroy (Marilyn) Gavin of Dearborn Heights; step-brother: Edward Heinrich of Arizona; and several nieces & nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; son: Jerry Edward Gavin; brothers: Donald and Marvin. Honoring his wishes cremation will take place and no services are planned at this time.
