Michael C. Mather, 65, of Suttons Bay, Michigan passed away Wednesday, June 15, 2016. He was born the son of Milton and Fern (Naumann) Mather on May 8, 1951 in Mount Morris, Michigan. He was raised in Gladwin, Michigan, and attended Northern Michigan University in Marquette, Michigan, receiving his Bachelor’s Degree. After college he resided for years in Barbeau, Michigan, where he was employed with the Michigan State Corrections, achieving Captain and then advancing to management. There he and his wife, GayAnn Mather lovingly raised their two children. He had resided in Grand Traverse County, Michigan since 2012. His memory will be forever cherished by GayAnn; his son: Corey (Allana) Mather of Traverse City, Michigan; daughter: LeeAnn Mather of Austin, Texas; grandson: Kendall Miller-Mather and granddaughter: Adley Mather. Also left to cherish his memory are his two sisters: Kathy McKenna of Gladwin, Michigan and Fern (William) Jones of Coleman, Michigan; and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, and brothers in-law: Michael McKenna and Nicholas Matijevich Jr. Funeral Services will be conducted on Monday, June 20, 2016 at 11:00 A.M. at Hall-Kokotovich Funeral Home in Gladwin, Michigan. The family will receive friends from 2:00-7:00 P.M. on Sunday, June 19, 2016 at the funeral home. Honoring his wishes, cremation will take place with a private burial ceremony on Tuesday, June 21, 2016. For those that may wish to do so, the family requests that in lieu of flowers a donation be made to the Michigan Audobon Society at www.michiganaudubon.org with the description of “In Memory of Michael C. Mather.”
