Bernard Nelson Thompson, 75 of Allegan, MI (formerly of Gladwin) passed away Saturday, May 28, 2016 with his family by his side. He lived almost his entire life in Gladwin before moving to Allegan this past year to live with his daughter and son-in-law. He was born in Gladwin, MI on December 26, 1940 and was the son of Alfred and Evelyn (Harris) Thompson of Gladwin. He graduated from Gladwin High School in 1959. He married the love of his life, Nancy Lee Baker on October 19, 1968. He retired from Dow Chemical in 1994 after 34 years of service. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and Member of the NRA. He took several moose and elk hunting trips out west and loved to have deer camp every year at his home. He was a big NASCAR fan and “My boy Jimmie!” Johnson was his favorite driver. Football was another favorite and it didn’t matter what team as long as there was a game on somewhere. He enjoyed taking road trips, farming, building things and was always working.
He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Nancy, 2 Daughters, Kendra (Rob) McNees of Allegan and Kathy (Paul) Meyer of Shepherd. 5 Grandchildren, Cody McNees, Austin McNees, Brittney Meyer, Ashlea McNees and Kaitlyn Meyer. 1 Brother Dewayne (Karen Mullin) Thompson of Alexandria, Virginia, 2 Sisters, Dorothy (Basil) Loar and Margaret (Craig) O’Dell of Beaverton. Brother-in-laws and Sister-in-laws, Thomas (Jean) Baker of Midland, Richard (Diane) Baker of Hudsonville, Joseph Baker of Bay City, Robert (Debby) Baker of Midland, Terry (Tammy) Thrush of Midland, Ann (Cliff) Blake of Hope, Elizabeth (Phil) Laleman of Essexville. Several Nieces and Nephews, Great Nieces and Nephews and Cousins. He was predeceased by his Parents, Mother and Father-in-law, 3 Sister-in-laws and 2 Great Grandchildren.
Services will be held at Hall-Kokotovich Funeral Home in Gladwin on Saturday, June 4th at 11:00 am. Visitation will be Friday, June 3rd at 2pm – 4pm and 5pm – 8pm. He will be laid to rest in the Sherman Twp. Cemetery in Skeels. A graveside service will be held there following the funeral service.
