Walter Skotynsky, 92, of Beaverton, Michigan passed away on Friday, May 20, 2016. He was born in Toledo, Ohio, on August 25, 1923 to Nicholas & Katherine (Chapko) Skotynsky. He was a veteran of the United States Coast Guard proudly serving his country during World War II as a Merchant Marine / Lt. Commander. Walter was a man who surpassed all human fate. Walter's ship was torpedo outside Greenland upon his rescue and recuperation in the hospital, he returned to combat for the invasion of Normandy. Walter then returned home to continue operating the family business, "Toledo Building Maintenance" which was located on Canton Ave.
On September 15, 1945 he was united in marriage to Kathleen Adams in New York City. She predeceased him in 1998. He was employed as a mechanical engineer at Ebasco Nuclear Power Plant, retiring in 1995. Walter had lived in Gladwin County since 1978 and was a member of St. Anne Catholic Church in Edenville, Michigan. His memory will be forever cherished by his son: Walter John (Sandra) Skotynsky of Toledo, Ohio; daughter: Judith (Richard) Zitte of Appleton, Wisconsin; sons: Michael (Dianne) Skotynsky of Toledo, Ohio; Charles (Jennifer) Skotynsky of Evart, Michigan. He was blessed with 7 beautiful grandchildren and 7 precious great grandchildren. He is also survived by 1 sister: Catherine Nazark. He is preceded in death by his wife: Kathleen Skotynsky; parents; two sons: Thomas and Nicholas Skotynsky; brothers: Paul, Nicholas & Leonard. Funeral Mass will be conducted by Father Musi William J. Kubacki on Wednesday, May 25, 2016, at 11:00 A.M., with visitation beginning at 10:00 A.M. at Our Lady Queen of the Most Holy Rosary Cathedral in Toledo, Ohio. He will be laid to rest with Military Honors at Calvary Cemetery, Toledo, Ohio. Memorial Contributions may be made to St. Michael’s Ukranian Catholic Church, 133 Walnut Street, Rossford, Ohio, 43460. Arrangements are in the care of Hall-Kokotovich Funeral Home, Gladwin, Michigan.
