Betty E. Freel

May 24, 1924 — April 16, 2016

Betty Muir Freel passed away April 16, 2016 at Heavenly Homestead, where she had lived since the passing of her husband Keith, in 2009.
Betty was born May 24, 1924 to Harry and Edna Muir in Detroit, Michigan. She was the fifth child of eight. She went to school in Detroit, and did factory work.
On October 26, 1946 she married Keith Freel in Detroit. They stayed in Detroit for several years, while she continued her factory work, and he was a truck driver. In 1958 they moved to Brighton, where they raised their family. She worked as a lunch room supervisor and playground attendant at the elementary school down the street from where they lived. Keith continued his truck driving. When he retired from trucking, they sold their house, and everything in it, and bought a motor home. They traveled the United States and Mexico for 21 years. They made many friends over the years and they remained in contact with them. Betty loved doing yard work, and planting flowers. She planted flower seeds all over the US and Mexico, but rarely got to stay put long enough to see them bloom.
They spent most summers parked in their daughter Karen’s yard, and there she got to stay long enough to enjoy the flowers. She also enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.
When they decided that is was time to stop wandering, they made their home in Gladwin, to be near their favorite daughter.
She is survived by her daughter, Karen Freel-Locey (Bryan),of Gladwin, son, Kevin Freel (Lynn) of Lansing and a sister Jessie Connors of Westland, grandchildren Kacia Bernier, of Olympia, WA, David Klein, of Wyoming, MI, and Amanda Klein of Gladwin, great grandchildren Kinsey, Delanie, Will, Bailey, Ezra and Eliya.
She was predeceased by siblings, Raymond Muir, Charles Muir, Edna Whitehead, Florence Morse, Tom Muir and Mary Fame, sons Larry Freel and Duane Freel.
According to the wishes of the family, cremation will take place. Arrangements made with Hall-Kokotovich Funeral Home, Gladwin.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice of Gladwin Area, or the MidMichigan Health Gladwin Alzheimer’s Support Group. Arrangements are in the care of Hall-Kokotovich Funeral Home, Gladwin, Michigan. www.hallkokotovichfuneralhome.com
