Ada Wright

December 15, 1931 — April 17, 2016

Ada Wright, 84, of Beaverton, Michigan passed away at Heavenly Homestead AFC in Gladwin, Michigan on Sunday, April 17, 2016. She was born in Phelps, Kentucky on December 15, 1931 the only daughter and youngest of 8 children of Frank & America (Hatfield) McCoy. She was a direct descendent of the infamous “Hatfield’s and McCoy’s.” When Ada’s parents married, the brothers were going to attempt to stop the marriage, but decided against it for fear of starting another feud. In 1944 Life magazine photographer Walter Sanders visited the Hatfields and McCoys in their southern homes. Frank and America were featured in the article as well as interviewed, as were many of both Hatfields and McCoys. The pictures and interviews provided evidence that the bloody feud was indeed real and not an old wives tale. During Ada’s lifetime, in the year 2003, the two families signed a truce, both official and symbolic, to end the bloody feud. Ada married Donald Wright and they shared 27 years together before he predeceased her in 1979. She was a homemaker and doting pet owner, especially cats, living in Gladwin County since 1981, previously residing in Grand Blanc, Michigan. Her memory will be cherished by her only daughter: Pamela Duttine of Beaverton; grandson: Raymond Duttine; great grandson: Gavin Duttine both of Michigan Center; sister-in-laws: Kathleen Eldridge and Faye McCoy. She is preceded in death by her husband: Donald Wright; son: Donald J. Wright; parents: Frank & America McCoy; brothers: Lark (Dellamae) McCoy, Ferrell (Cecelia) McCoy, Perry (Lula) McCoy, Woodrow McCoy, Cassell McCoy, Joseph (Deloris) McCoy, and Jay P. McCoy. Graveside Services will be conducted by Pastor Paul Kile on Friday, April 22, 2016, 2:00 P.M. at Billings Twp. Cemetery, Beaverton, Michigan. Arrangements are in the care of Hall-Kokotovich Funeral Home, Gladwin, Michigan. www.hallkokotovichfuneralhome.com
