John "Jack" M. Sherlock

August 1, 1939 — April 14, 2016

John M. “Jack” Sherlock, 76, of Gladwin, Michigan passed away suddenly on Thursday, April 14, 2016. He was born in Gladwin on August 1, 1939, the son of Merrill & Edith (Tracy) Sherlock. On April 14, 1962, he was united in marriage to Mary Ellen Bushong in Mt. Morris, Michigan. They shared 54 wonderful years together. He was a proud veteran of the United States Army. He was employed with Dow Chemical in Midland as a Millwright until his retirement, and also worked with his very dear friend of many years, Frank Foutch. He was a lifetime resident of Gladwin County and a member of F.O.E. Gladwin Aerie 3292. He enjoyed playing the guitar and singing karaoke, but his real passion in life was for building airplanes and flying along with his sons. Besides his participation in the local Gladwin Pilots Association, he and his son both contributed a great deal to their annual events, and both were members in the National EAA Spirit of Aviation Pilot’s Association nationwide. Jack was one of the very few people who was invited personally to Oshkosh, Wisconsin to the home and museum of the Oshkosh founder, Paul Poberezny, who was the founder of the Oshkosh, Wisconsin’s gigantic week long air event. He then took Jack for a ride in his very own P 51 Mustang. Jack’s oldest son presently is restoring a P 51 Mustang Warbird and his second son is currently beginning to show a great deal of interest in following his dad’s passion for aviation. Jack also very much enjoyed the outdoors hunting and fishing with his youngest son. His memory will be forever cherished by his loving wife: Mary Ellen Sherlock of Gladwin; sons: Grover Scott Sherlock of Gladwin; John “Skip” Sherlock of North Dakota; 5 grandchildren; brother: Donald (Virginia) Sherlock of also Gladwin. He is preceded in death by his parents; brother: Jim Sherlock; sisters: Barbara Ford; Marilyn Baumann. Honoring his wishes, cremation will take place. Memorial Services will be conducted on Monday, April 18, 2016, 3:30 P.M., with visitation beginning at 2:00 P.M. at Hall-Kokotovich Funeral Home, Gladwin, Michigan. www.hallkokotovichfuneralhome.com
