Nelson "Pete" Steele Jr.

Nelson “Pete” Steele Jr. 78 of Gladwin, Michigan, passed away at his home surrounded by loved ones on February 27, 2016. Nelson was born on March 30, 1937 to Nelson Sr. and Edith (Hooper) Steele. He lived in Gladwin his whole life. Pete proudly served his country for the US Army. When leaving the army, he found work as a well driller at Independent Well Drilling in Mt. Pleasant. He later became a fabricator at Lyles Industries in Beaverton. He was a member of Hope Baptist Church in Harrison and also had a great love for Euchre. Pete married the love of his life Lola (Wright) on September 19th 1959 in Gladwin. She survives him along with their children, Nelson III (Dawn) Steele of Harrison, TN; Jeff (Jill) Steele of Higgins Lake; Colleen (Steve) Lariviere of Phillips ME; David (Jennifer) Shull of Brookings, OR; Larry (Marini) Shull of Germany; Mark (Sandy) Shull of Texas; Romaine (Chris) Russell of Clare; Loretta Williams of Clare, 26 grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings: Helen VanHorn of Beaverton; Rose (Merlin) Wooley of Beaverton; Linda Best of Beaverton; brother in-laws: Everett (Donna) Wright of Sanford; Jim (Marstella) Wright of Gladwin; David (Debby) Wright of Gladwin; Don (Terry) Wright of Boyne Falls along with several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents: Nelson and Edith (Hooper) Steele; in-laws: Carl and Ella Grace Wright; brother in-law: Roy VanHorn; step-father: Marion Wikenson and granddaughter: Dorothy Shull. Visitation will take place Monday, February 29, 2016 at the Hall-Kokotovich Funeral Home in Gladwin from 6:30-8:30 P.M. Funeral service will be held Tuesday, March 1, 2016, 1:00 P.M. at Hall-Kokotovich Funeral Home, Gladwin, Michigan. Burial will take place in Hamilton Township Cemetery, Pastor Eric Pittman will be officiating.
